Children and their guardians/parents are invited to explore an assortment of craft-making materials to paint, color, cut, draw, or sculpt an imaginative work of art. For an added sensory experience, dig your hands into our sea creature sandbox. For all ages; Included with admission/Members free.

Oct. 4 – 15: Cubism: Self Portraits—Geometry and art unite! Create your own Cubist self-portrait in the style of Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). Study your face in the mirror, then learn some of Picasso’s basic Cubism techniques to simplify the shape of your eyes, nose, lips, and teeth into a series of geometric forms: squares, rectangles, rhombuses, triangles, circles.

Oct. 18 – 22: Mandalas—Mandalas originated as an artistic form of spiritual practice in Hinduism and Buddhism. The most common are circular forms filled with decorative geometric designs and patterns. The round shape is meant to represent the universe. Some mandalas are painted while others are made from natural materials such as special colored sand. Making a mandala is an art form that requires careful concentration. We will practice mandala art while listening to relaxing music and soothing sounds of nature, strengthening our concentration skills and hand-eye coordination!

Oct. 25- 29: Making Monsters—Develop some monstrous textures using tissue paper, magazines, construction paper, fabric, yarn, foil, and glue to piece together your own monster in time for Halloween!
