Selections from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation
August 26 - Dec. 10, 2006
Whatcom Museum, 1892 Old City Hall

This exquisite body of work by the French artist Auguste Rodin (1840 – 1917) features 35 bronze sculptures, both large and small, and intensely emotional and expressive, spanning the length of Rodin’s artistic legacy. Sculptures are paired with quotations from Rodin, and his words help illuminate his ideas about art. For audiences of all ages, Rodin’s work suggests a frailty and vulnerability of the human body, while at the same time, speaks of its beauty and power. Rodin: In His Own Words is part of a national traveling tour that brings to Bellingham a world-renowned exhibition organized by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation (Los Angeles). This is the only scheduled appearance in the Pacific Northwest.
