Painted Songs: The Art of Fishboy, R.R. Clark

Whatcom Museum,
1892 Old City Hall

Using discarded lumber scraps and leftover latex paint, self-taught artist Randy Clark creates heartfelt works of art that are nearly always imbued with his unique sense of humor. Clark calls himself "Fishboy" because he is constantly "fishing" or searching for recycled materials as well as ideas and inspiration. Although Clark’s full-time job is driving a bus for Whatcom Transit Authority, he paints 20-25 hours a week. His creations are wide-ranging in form, from paintings to wooden toys and games, to furniture. His inspiration comes from his own unique personal vision as well as unusually quirky sources such as comic strips, circus signage, and other self-taught artists.
