Expanded Horizons is an exhibition featuring unique panoramic views of downtown Bellingham, the waterfront, Mt. Baker glaciers, Whatcom County tulip fields, the "White City" at Lake Whatcom, group portraits and more.

Focusing on women in the workplace in and around Bellingham, a dozen photographs from the Museum’s Photo Archives provide a fun and instructive view into “women’s work” from 1891 to 1969. Featured are nurses, telephone operators, cannery and office workers and others by photographers Dobbs & Fleming, Asahel Curtis, J. W. Sandison, and Jack Carver.

 

Permanent History Exhibitions on View in the Old City Hall Building

Woodworking Tools: 1880-1910:
The exhibit is representative of the tools a finish carpenter or cabinet maker might have used as he plied his trade at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, including planes, chisels and frame saws. Examples of projects and carpentry uses for the tools are included.

Permanent History and Ethnology Exhibitions on View in the Syre Education Center

First Nations - Northwest Coast and Inuit exhibitions:
The museum’s collection of Native American artifacts includes good examples of the use of natural materials to enhance the quality of native life, including baskets, bent-wood boxes, masks, canoe, fishing gear, Salish and Chilkat blankets, mats, hats, and other tools and accessories. A video on contemporary Lummi basketweaver Anna Jefferson adds a first-person voice to the interpretation.
