  • Register as a volunteer (includes a state-mandated background check and Whatcom Volunteer Center registration)
  • Abide by the policies and procedures of the Museum
  • Attend a one-time, volunteer-orientation session
  • Record all of your volunteer hours

MUSEUM DOCENTS
When the Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher building opens mid-November a cadre of trained docents will be on hand to lead gallery tours and architectural walking tours through the state-of-the-art, LEED-certified GREEN building.

Twenty community residents with a serious interest in art and history began training in September and have made a year-long commitment to lead tours that will enhance visitors’ museum experiences.  Early in 2010 another docent training series will begin, with programs continuing until a full complement of trained, enthused, volunteer educators will be available for tours year-round. If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a docent, please call Marilyn Burns, Docent Educator, at 360/778-8938 for information.

WHATCOM MUSEUM GUILD
The Whatcom Museum Guild, founded in 1968, is a social and fundraising group, whose purpose is to raise money to help underwrite museum operation costs and provide enriching public programs for museum members. A standing committee of the Whatcom Museum Foundation, the Guild hosts museum openings and monthly programs, organizes fundraising and special events, as well as contributing countless volunteer hours in support of the museum staff.

Monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month, September through June and start at 9:30 AM with coffee and tea, followed by a program at 10 AM. Visit the events section to see what out-standing programs are in store.
