NORTHWEST FIRST NATIONS PROGRAMS AND TOURS include:
(Program under revision, please call for availability) The Northwest Coast Native American Hands–on Workshop presents regional Native American Culture through artifacts, reproductions, and interactive learning. The hands-on workshop can be presented at the Museum or at the school.
Students discover the ingenious tools, clothing, masks, and other objects the People of the Sea and Cedar produced from materials in the rich temperate coastal environment. The Northwest Coast People Hands-on Workshop allows students to prepare inner cedar bark and make twine, weave, split and adz wood, sharpen slate blades, and taste salmon cooked in a bent-wood box. The program is co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women.
The hands-on Workshop is 1 hour long as a third or fourth grade curriculum program, and is adaptable for 2nd to 5th grade.
