MixIt: After Hours Art and Music at the Lightcatcher December 3

SHIMMER UP AND GET DOWN TO THE PRIME TIME BAND AT FINAL MIXIT OF 2011

Bellingham, WA, November 17, 2011 — The Whatcom Museum holds its last MixIt of the year Saturday, December 3, with R&B/soul tunes by the 11-piece Prime Time Band, a wearable-poetry project led by mixed-media fiber artist, Renee Scherrer, and a late-night “fashion show-off” of the wear-speak art that event-goers create in the studio.

MixIt is equal parts dance party, gallery walk and hands-on art project. The 21+ event takes its inspiration from current exhibition, Lesley Dill’s Poetic Visions, featuring a major installation called “Shimmer” and another that highlights famous New Orleans street preacher, musician and folk artist Sister Gertrude Morgan. Dill is known for the unexpected and dramatic ways in which she fuses art and language. Galleries are open for touring during the event; Delivery Daily: The News Photography of Jack Carver, will also be on view.

Music by Sister Gertude Morgan will be featured during band breaks. The Lightcatcher Café supplies the snacks and beverages and the museum store will be open with special sales. General admission is $10; $5 for members. Tickets are available by phone 360/778-8963; at the museum during business hours, or at the door. Doors open at 8 PM.
